Spread the News

I'm going to be featured on Moda Bake Shop next Saturday, August 6th.

Keep in mind I said next Saturday...not this Saturday.  I just wanted to get the word out early because I'm so excited.  Here's a teaser as to what I'll be showing you all how to make.

It's my first quilt design and first time on the Bake Shop; which makes this news even sweeter.  Get it, sweet...Bake Shop...hahaha

I hope you'll hop on over to the Bake Shop next Saturday, and of course...if you forget, I'll be blogging about it too.

Talking Tuesdays...What??

So as some of you know, I recently joined the Tweeting community.  I'm @LoveOldHouses by the way.

I have been following some of my Quilting Friends and read about this #talknt thing they were doing.  I didn't know really what it was; but I figured I'd check it out anyway.

Come to find out that every Tuesday evening, a group gets together on Twitter and chats it up.  This Tuesday they were talking about the upcoming Sewing Summit; which I'm bummed I can't make this year.

But along the way you connect with people, have a few side mini-conversations and end up wasting almost 2 hours of your evening.  But you know what, I had fun.

So, if you are on Twitter and need something to do on Tuesday evening, give it a go.  Visit Talkin' Tuesday to check out the upcoming lineup.

And to any of you who I chatted with...Hi !!  {{Waving}}

Back to our Roots

So there's been alot going on over here in this little house.

I signed up to participate in the Doll Quilt Swap, Round 11 and was one of the lucky ones to get in.  This round as they put it we are "going back to our roots".  This appealed to me because the last round I was in I felt the need to make an Art/Contemporary Quilt as that is what my partner's mosaic was filled with.  While the quilt was nice, there was no part of me in it and honestly I dreaded the entire process.

This new round has updated size requirements which state that the quilt must measure between 12-18 inches per side; which means it is a true Doll Quilt.

These little blocks only measure 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"...super tiny and alot of work; but worth it I think.

Next up is the Simply Strings Bee, Sabah asked for a modified Log Cabin using that beige block as the focus.

I'm working on my Moda BakeShop project.  Here's a sneak peek.
I'll let you all know when it will be posted.

Finally, I want to share with you some quilts that live in my studio.

Wait...not a single modern quilt in the bunch.  Yep, precisely!

Whenever I go to the antique mall, quilts are always at the top of my list.  While you can drop a pretty penny for the really nice ones that probaby lived in a chest all their existance.  I actually prefer the ones that are "lived in", and show some wear-n-tear...of course those are the ones that end up being in my price range too, I like to call that an added bonus.

Yet, you know what I collect them for....this

Good Ol' Fashioned Hand Quilting.

None of the quilts pictured above have names or dates on them, so I haven't a clue as to their age; but I imagine they were lovingly made to keep someone warm.

So for anyone who is doubting that a Modern Quilter can appreciate or does not know about quilting history...Think Again!!

And for those of you who have welcomed Modern Quilting and believe it too has it's place next to Traditional Quilting...Thank You!!

Clean Sweep and Next Steps

So after my STLMQG meeting on Saturday, and after I talked about how important it is to stay connected online...I got thinking.  Am I really doing what I am asking of my members?

I have the Blogging, Flickr thing down; but I am President and should be setting an example, right?

So, let's see what I am doing right and probably doing wrong from a Social Media standpoint:

I have a Facebook page...Check
But probably haven't been on it in months...Boo
-I have all these highschool connections; but let's be honest.  My highschool years were absolute hell, and while I thought I had a handful of friends, looking back on it...I really didn't.  So on Saturday afternoon, I actually went through and cleaned house on Facebook, removing all of these people.  It actually felt good.
-What I have done correctly is connect with people from work (selectively of course) that I do have a real connection with and a few in particular are super-close friends that I don't know how I'd make it through work everyday if they weren't there.
-I have also been connecting with my Quilty-Pals from the STLMQG who are a great bunch of people that honestly I can say I couldn't live without now that I've met them.

Okay, onto #2...Twitter.

I don't have a Twitter account...Boo
-I thought it was the most ridiculous thing ever when it first started; but I'm learning to appreciate the value it has.

So, I'm looking to start a Twitter account...Check, even if it is mostly to follow other people at first, baby steps right.  I'll of course update you all on when that happens.

UPDATE 7/14:  I now have a Twitter Account.  Look on the right sidebar and you'll see the link.

Okay, onto #3...Pinterest

I have a Pinterest Account...Check
I haven't pinned a single thing...Boo
-I think I actually have a few people following me; which is funny, since there is nothing there yet; but I think they are work and quilty they understand, for now :-)

UPDATE 7/14: I've starting pinning. Look on the right sidebar and you'll see the link.

As for Blogs and Flickr

I have a blog, of course, that's what you are reading now...Check
There really isn't a Boo moment for this right now, as I am continually learning about what is new, what others are doing and how I can learn from their successes and failures, how to expand my readership, etc, etc, etc.  This is a slow process; but I'm enjoying the journey.

Flickr, I think I got a pretty good lock on that right now Check

So in the scheme of things, I've cleaned house in some areas (Facebook) and have some progress to go in others (Pinterest, Twitter); yet it's been a good review and I feel better about things now.
