Staying Organized - Planner Style

My friend Nina, wrote a great post [My Bullet Journal...] a while ago about how she keeps organized. After a lengthy conversation with her via comments and emails, she inspired me to write this post.

For as long as I could remember, I always wanted to be one of those people who carried around a planner.  I don't know why I wanted to be one; but no matter how hard I tried and how many versions I purchased over the years, I just couldn't get in the habit of actually using one. Although maybe it also had something to do with the fact that my life pretty much consisted of nothing but long hours at work...which would make for a very depressing planner.

I don't know how many years had gone by; but I came across this post [Planner Dependence] by Melanie (Texas Freckles) , who was talking about how she keeps a Moleskine planner and I was intrigued.  Being that it was close to Christmas, I asked for the XL Soft Cover 7.5" x 10" Monthly version; which I received and then quickly went out and purchased a set of colorful pens and washi tape because of course, you can never have enough office supplies.

It was helpful of course that my decision to start a planner coincided with my life actually getting busier and moving beyond the hum-drum of just work.  I now needed to keep track of travel, swaps, patterns, quilt guild, works in progress, retreats, sew-ins, and of course busy work weeks, birthdays, family events, etc.

There were a few weeks when I would forget completely about my planner (old habits die hard); but as the year came to a close, I was pretty excited that I stuck with it.  I'm nearly finished with year #2 (2014) and have already puchased my 2015 planner.

So, are you a planner person, or do you prefer using your hi-tech gadgets?

  1. I'm the same way!! I bought a planner for 2015 and I'm hoping to remember to use it... I'm so glad it's not just me. And that there's hope for us planner wanna-bes!

  2. Love! This just confirms why I'm back at using a paper planner. There's much more joy in it! Thanks for sharing your photos and for writing in an amusing way about it - because YES! one can never have too many office supplies :D After almost a month and a half of bullet journalling with a GTD twist, I'm sold, so much more productive than when I tried but failed at using iCal. It is pretty and I love the colour options, but the level of commitment just isn't there like when you write something by hand. And I'm still very much in love with that Sherlock quilt of yours!

  3. I've been debating about getting a planner because while I'm pretty good about filling things in on my iPad's calendar, there's nothing like the actual physical element. Plus, it's a great excuse to put my obsession with washi tape and Pilot G2 pens to use.

  4. After several embarrassing fails due to my cloud not remembering my schedule... I use a paper planner now.

Please don't remind me I've purchased 3 planners just for 2014 because I lost the 2 previous ones...

Thanks for what do you think?
